Today they worked in groups taking it in turns to share their goal and their question to check if the rest of their group could see the connection. Class 6b News
Welcome
Welcome to the class 6b blog 2010-2011.
This blog is a way to keep you all updated on what we are doing in class and information on events and trips that the students are involved in. Homework will also be posted every Monday - this will act as a checklist as students will still be responsible for recording what is due and when in their homework diaries.
In addition to the blog all students have been issued with access to Google apps. To access this they must use their personla username and password in the login page at http://www.google.com/a/learning.ecolint.ch

Guiding Questions
Last week the students continued to think about the areas that interested them. They started some initial research and developed questions that they needed to answer in order to know more about their issue. This week the students have been thinking about the main concepts (important ideas) related to their issue and have developed a guiding question that will not only lead their inquiries, but will also link directly to their aim - their social activism.
Today they worked in groups taking it in turns to share their goal and their question to check if the rest of their group could see the connection.

The Exhibition
The Exhibition has started and the students have been involved in a number of activities to get them thinking about the central idea. They started by looking at the Transdiciplinary Theme: How We Express Ourselves and broke it apart.
They also brainstormed the arts and what they are. They then went on to look at different examples of art that have been used for social activism.

Update
It has been a while since the last post and the students have been complaining! So with that fresh in their minds they are now taking over.
We have finished the Beliefs and Values unit and we are half way through Personal Growth and Change. In the first two weeks of the unit there has been a lot of information to take in but there has also been a lot of creative writing and reflection. The next few posts will share some of this with you.
Enjoy.

Escalade
Trip to the Islamic Cultural Centre December 10th
On Friday 10th December, Mrs Ali-Khan arranged for year 6 to visit the Islamic Cultural Center of Geneva in Petit Saconnex. We spent some time appreciating the interesting architecture and art. We were shown the different prayer rooms and Mr Idris also spent time talking about the various activities that take place in the centre. We spent time in the classrooms and the students had the chance to ask many questions. This was a great opportunity to see how beliefs and values help shape communities and daily life and it was a great way to start our new unit.
